Smile of the Day
Smile of the Day ended its run shortly after our reviewers were asked to critique it. According to the last post, the site will be revived at www.theblackfly.net.
Still, I doubt many of our reviewers will follow along.
CONTENT – 5.0
“This is the first ‘joke-joke’ blog I’ve seen and I’m not impressed.”
“Very sweet but very bland content. Jokes we've seen or heard dozens of times before. Reads like the "Laughter is the Best Medicine" section of Readers Digest. Even sort of looks like it.”
“I got a chuckle or two out of this blog.”
“I found it boring.”
“Consistent posts, upbeat, amusing.”
“Humorous but not very creative. Anyone can post a joke every day.”
DESIGN – 4.5
“Basic Blogger template.”
“Not particularly creative.”
“Standard Blogger template adds to the Reader’s Digest effect.”
“This is one of my least-favorite Blogger templates.”
QUALITY OF WRITING/GRAMMAR – 5.3
“Unoriginal.”
“The writing is fine, the grammar is impeccable. Sadly, most of it comes from other sources.”
“I would imagine most of it is cut-and-paste from other sources. The grammar is OK, but the writing probably isn’t ”
INTANGIBLES – 4.2
“Ads everywhere. Tip cup, for what? Recycled humor? Oy. I have a headache. Too much blinking. Take your 2 and be grateful.”
“I've decided the donation button annoys me more than the ads.”
“What do you call that when you go around collecting other people’s trash and then try to make money off of it with a bunch of ads? I don’t know either, but that’s exactly what this site does. We should make up a word.”
FREQUENCY – 10.0
“Smile of the Day was a pretty frequent site in its day.”
WOULD YOU READ THIS BLOG REGULARLY – 6% Yes
“Nope, it's like any other personal joke blog out there.”
“Not sure.”
“I am trying to forget it.”
“Maybe.”
“Not on your life.”
OVERALL – 57.6

what qualifies you to be reviewed? (just curious)
By cruisin-mom, at October 07, 2006 11:34 AM
We started out by reviewing all of the winners and nominees in humor categories at the major contests (Bloggies, Best of Blogs, etc.).
From there, we began reviewing past Bloggie finalists and sites that have been listed by Yahoo!, Technorati, and other sites as some of the most humorous on the Net.
We still have several reference sites to explore, but we always accept suggestions from our readers. If you think a particular blog is funny, please send the link to bloglaughs@hotmail.com.
We are currently reviewing our next list of sites to review, so there is a good chance any suggested blogs will be reviewed relatively soon.
We are also always looking for people to help us review sites. It's a very simple process and you can opt in or out at any time. No pressure.
We have more than 50 reviewers on the list, but not everyone takes part every week. (Not all of them make comments either.) That's why we can always use more people on the review list. Just send an e-mail to the e-mail address listed above.
